A band is placed around the upper portion of the stomach, creating a small pouch that limits food intake, and allows you to feel satisfied with a smaller portion of food. Additionally, a small port is affixed to the muscle wall of the abdomen that allows the band to be adjusted later to slow the release of food from the stomach pouch through the digestive system. Adjustment to the band can be done in the office without the need to return to the operating room.
Our surgeons can perform the band surgery using minimally-invasive techniques. The surgeon can use a laparoscope, a small camera that is inserted into your belly, and thin surgical instruments. For patients, this means less blood loss, smaller scars, and a shorter recovery time. Our surgeons are highly-experienced in laparoscopic surgery techniques.
